  Mesquite Regional Landfill

   County of Imperial, CA

LandMark Consultants, Inc. provided geotechnical engineering services for the proposed Mesquite Regional Landfill in Imperial County, California.  The Mesquite Regional Landfill (MRL) site is located at 6502 East Highway 78, approximately four miles northeast of Glamis, California.  The proposed landfill will be located on 4,245 acres of vacant land adjacent to the Mesquite Gold Mine.  It will be a Class III landfill accepting residual municipal solid waste (MSW) that will be rail hauled from southern California communities.  The approved landfill footprint is about 2,290 acres and will provide capacity for approximately 600 million tons of residual MSW over an estimated 100 years of disposal operations.

Landmark prepared a geotechnical investigation report for the landfill water system improvements which consist of two electrical substations and approximately 5,000 linear feet of 12 to 18 inch diameter underground water pipeline between an existing above ground steel pipeline and a new 2 million gallon steel water storage tank.

Landmark Consultants provided construction materials testing and inspection services during construction of the infrastructure for the MRL.  Landmark provided asphaltic concrete pavement, concrete, and soil-cement testing services for the project.  We also provided soil-cement mix designs.  The infrastructure improvements portion of the project consisted of 130,000 cubic yards of soil cement, 30,000 tons of crushed aggregate base and 30,000 tons of asphaltic concrete.  Infrastructure work consisted of installation and backfill of about 3,900 linear feet of watermain, 400 linear feet of electrical conduit, placement of a standby generator slab, a pressure tank slab and a 40 ft. x 80 ft. pump foundation and steel shade structure.
