The Project is designed to transform the New River from its current condition into an attractive community asset that will protect public health while fostering local economic development. It will involve upgrades to the City of Calexico’s wastewater treatment plant, which will provide more reliable treatment and lower pollutant loading to the river.

The proposed improvements will consist of the construction of two 70-foot diameter digesters, two 60-foot diameter primary clarifiers, two 75-foot diameter secondary clarifiers, aeration tanks, sewer lift station, equalization basin and several buildings for influent and grit chamber, equalization return, head works, blower, centrifuge, return activated sludge, pump stations and UV replacement unit.  The proposed digester, clarifiers and some structures like wet wells will consist of reinforced concrete and constructed mostly below grade.
